Using world class technologies for superior range and crystal clear voice, Tunnel Radio provides two-way radio communication and tracking systems for mines.
Tunnel Radio’s patented UltraComm TR-500MHz mine radio system can transmit great distances including around corners, in confined spaces, and beyond barriers.
For mines that have already installed VHF systems, Tunnel Radio recommends the UltraComm VHF TR-155 or TR-159 mine communication solution.
The MineAx tracking system locates people and equipment underground, and supports multiple modes of data transport including via leaky feeder, Ethernet and hardwire.
Tunnel Radio of America® provides underground, two-way radio communication and tracking systems using world class technologies for superior range and crystal clear voice. We build and install mining and railroad tunnel wireless systems worldwide, including in the USA, Canada, Australia, and South America.
We utilize distributed antenna networks (DAS) and leaky feeder radiating cables. We integrate Motorola® Kenwood® and Icom America® radios over conventional networks or via IP. We integrate RoIP, broadband, RF over fiber optic, RF over fiber and leaky feeder technologies to meet your needs.
We can help your mine become Miner Act 2006 and West Virginia (WVMHST) compliant to create a safer work environment for your entire workforce. Deployed with our new MineAx personnel tracking system your mine will have a complete underground communications and tracking solution.
Mine communication solutions – UHF and VHF mine radio technologies
As the most experienced supplier of mine radio technologies, Tunnel Radio has stepped out in front with our patented UltraComm TR-500MHz radio system. Radio tests have confirmed that these new bands offer great advantages over lower frequency systems due to their ability to transmit great distances including around corners, in confined spaces, and beyond barriers.
500MHz systems, such as the UltraComm TR-500, provide vastly improved obstruction passage over older VHF technologies. Parked equipment, belts, or shields will stop VHF signals dead, while the powerful, compact UHF wave will pass on, ensuring the best possible link. In most installations, UltraComm provides 100%-500% more coverage than competitive systems and the UHF system is often more cost effective and efficient to run—requiring fewer amplifiers and simpler maintenance.
The UltraComm VHF TR-155 or TR-159 is suitable for mines that have already installed VHF systems and have the ability to continue to support those installations. For new installations, however, we recommend the more reliable, longer range UHF system. Or, based on the needs of the individual mine, we have the ability to use a combination system to enable you to get the ‘best of both worlds’ – the robustness and versatility of the VHF system, and the added range and clarity of the UHF system.
Personnel and vehicle tracking solutions
MineAx "Bird Dog" tracking provides the ability to locate people and equipment underground. MineAx supports multiple modes of data transport including wireless readers via leaky feeder, Ethernet and hardwire. This provides for maximum flexibility in design as well as installation.
In wireless mode, the tag readers can be located anywhere within the leaky feeder radio system coverage area; and with a range of up to 450ft from the reader. The MineAx system provides customized coverage for each unique installation. Both local and client server computer user interfaces allow tracking of individual workers and equipment throughout a mine facility.
Wireless voice communications and tracking
Tunnel Radio solutions offer wireless voice communications and tracking from the same source without the need for dual systems installed in your mine—a sometimes costly and cumbersome option. With Tunnel Radio, you have complete one-stop shopping for both your wireless voice communication and tracking needs.
Our MineAx Bird-Dog tracking and tagging system works with our UltraComm leaky feeder backbone so all you need to add is the head-end unit, wireless readers and the personnel tags. You’ll be up and running in no time.
