SEI has over 50 years’ experience in automotive safety design and engineering. Over the last 20 years, its focus has been on the key causal effects of occupant injury due to vehicle rollover events.

It has investigated over 500 automobile and LTV rollover crashes and from this developed its rollover roof-crush damage-minimization device, HALO™.

Rollover roof crush damage-minimization device

Leading the industry in RDMD fitment, the HALO stands alone. By significantly reducing internal roof collapse during a rollover, the HALO saves lives by preventing the fatal injuries caused by a roof failure without significantly modifying the vehicle’s structure and without interfering with any passive and active safety systems.

HALO works to reduce roof intrusion by distributing the forces over the entire roof structure. It is easy to install, unobtrusive, strong and light.

Easy to install rollover damage-minimization device

This rollover damage-minimization device is mounted to the roof of the vehicle with structural strength adhesive and rivets. The vehicle headliner does not need to be removed. The complete installation can be easily achieved in just a few hours by following our simple and comprehensive instructions.

Lightweight rollover damage-minimization device

HALO is made from mild steel and weighs less than 75lbs (34kg). It will neither add to instability (like some other heavy ‘roof top’ designs), nor reduce payload capabilities.

HALO was tested on a dynamic rollover crash-test device, in a simulated three-roll crash (two rolls at 29km/h (18mph) and another at 24km/h (15mph)), and limited the roof crush to less than 8cm (3in). It also reduced side glazing fractures, preventing occupant ejection.

Hidden internal components

Any necessary internal components are hidden under the headliner and trim, making them invisible from the inside, and ensuring no reduction in cabin space, unlike other obtrusive structures. In addition, each HALO design is compatible with all factory-installed internal safety equipment, such as side curtain airbags and pre-tensioned seat belts.
